Maintenance FAQ
Can you mix gasoline or kerosene with diesel fuel?

Mixing gasoline and kerosene can, in fact, damage the injection pump and become an added expense to you. However, if youhave issues with your equipment getting adequate fuel, you may try a flow-improver additive or #1 diesel.

Can I use ether in the winter to help start my Kubota diesel?

Ether or any other enhancer can damage your Kubota engine. Kubota dealers can detect this, and the Kubota warranty typically doesn’t cover the defect.

How do I safely store my Kubota tractor for the winter?

Gas engines and carburetors should be drained, or if you are unable to drain the fuel, you can add a gas stabilizer. Once the stabilizer is used, run the engine for approximately 15 minutes to ensure the enhancer has reached the entire system. Also, make sure the engine coolant has been mixed with water using a 50/50 solution. This protects your engine for temperatures reaching -34 degrees Fahrenheit.

Can I use 15W40 in my diesel instead of 10W30?

Yes, you can use 15W40. However, ensure that the oil you are using in your diesel has API rating higher than CF.

Can I use synthetic oil for a Kubota engine, and does this extend my oil life?

If the synthetic oil has an API rating of CF or higher, it can be used in a Kubota engine. However, using synthetic oil does not extend the life of the oil. Every oil cannot be tested, so it is still recommended to keep the same intervals of an oil change.

Is Super UDT2 considered a synthetic oil?

Unfortunately, E-85 gasoline cannot be used in Kubota engines. The reason for this is because E-85 requires a different air and fuel mixture than regular gasoline.

Can I use synthetic oil for a Kubota engine, and does this extend my oil life?

Super UDT2 is about 75% synthetic. The oil is for all-weather and a multi-purpose tractor hydraulic fluid. It is compatible with UDT fluids.

Why should I follow the recommended maintenance schedule?

Is Super UDT2 a Synthetic Oil?

Super UDT2, Kubota’s proprietary hydraulic/transmission fluid, is approximately 75% synthetic. It is a multi-purpose all-weather tractor hydraulic fluid. It is fully compatible with UDT fluids.

Can I use the less toxic propylene glycol antifreeze in my Kubota engine?

Propylene glycol coolant has different cooling properties than ethylene glycol coolant and may not cool the engine as well in many applications. Since propylene glycol does not absorb as much heat, cooling systems must be larger to accommodate that coolant. Most manufacture design their cooling systems with ethylene glycol, and the system is not large enough for the additional coolant needed to effectively cool an engine with propylene glycol. So, Kubota does not recommend the use of propylene glycol coolants.

Is it okay to use Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) in a Kubota diesel engine?

All commercially available diesel in the United States is now ULSD. ULSD (less than 15 PPM sulfur) is a requirement for Interim Tier 4 and newer Kubota diesel engines. ULSD is safe and highly recommended for all other Kubota diesel engines. Diesel fuel with greater than 15 PPM sulfur content, when used in combination with CJ-4 motor oil, may cause harm to your Kubota diesel engine.

When should my equipment be serviced?

Normally your equipment should be serviced every 50 hours of usage. However, we recommend that you consult the operator’s manual for information on your specific model.
