Common Kubota Tractor and Diesel Engine Problems and Solutions
Problems and Solutions for Kubota Tractors and Diesel Engines
When owning heavy equipment, there are going to be times when you run into a problem. However, not all tractor problems are going to be costly. Sometimes, the issues can be fixed with a simple solution.
Continue reading below to learn more about common Kubota tractor problems and solutions.
Engine not Cranking
If your Kubota engine is not cranking, you could have a dirty or corroded cable, a failed safety switch, or the battery is dead. Be sure to check and ensure the battery is, in fact, clean and has a proper charge. If you find that the battery cables are dirty or damaged, these should be replaced. You can check your Kubota tractor safety switch voltage with an Ohm meter to ensure your battery is getting enough voltage.
Overheating
Often, engines will overheat. When this becomes an issue, this can be from a low radiator airflow. Airflow can be reduced because of dust or other debris that is blocking the air to the radiator. To fix the overheating issue because of the lack of airflow, you must clean out the dirt or debris within the radiator’s fins.
Engine Dying
If you cannot keep your engine running – this could be because the gasoline has been mixed with diesel fuel. In the case two fuels have been mixed, you must drain and then flush the fuel system to help your Kubota engine run properly again.
Diesel Engine Problems and Solutions
Diesel Engine Won’t Start
Cause | Solution |
Oil is too sticky | Refill the engine with machine oil in the inlet pipe. |
Machine is cold | Disconnect the connection belt. After warming up the engine, add machine oil to the crankcase. Once the machine is fully warmed up, attach the belt. |
Air in the fuel system | To remove the air and avoid any further air coming into the fuel system – tighten each part connected to the fuel pipe. |
Stopped fuel supply | You will need to refill the fuel tank. |
An opening in the piston ring | This can be caused by wear and tear on the piston ring. To fix this, replace the piston ring with an Authorized Kubota diesel engine dealer such as Country Sales and Service. |
Fuel leaking | Leaking fuel can be the first sign that your piston gap is not aligned correctly. The piston gap needs to be lined up at a 120-degree angle and can be done by a technician at Country Sales and Service. |
Gas valves leaking or improper valve placement | The valves will need to be realigned. However, to get the correct installation, you can have them replaced or repaired. |
Fuel is too thick and won’t flow, or injection fuel spray is not correct | Compressed fuel can be because of using the wrong fuel brand. Replace the fuel with the proper brand. Also, for the injection spray not being right, check the fuel nozzle, and ensure it is cleaned. If cleaning the nozzle does not help, this will need to be replaced. |
Inadequate burning of fuel | First, check the spray nozzle to ensure that it is clean and check the delivery angle. If this is not the issue, check to see if a leak is in the cylinder head’s gasket. |
Kubota Diesel Engine Won’t Deliver Rated Mechanical Power
Cause | Solution |
The fuel system has malfunctioned. | Check to ensure the fuel filter, fuel nozzle, and fuel pipe is free from any debris. Also, ensure the fuel nozzle and fuel pipe is connecting to the proper fuel supply. |
Dirty or obstructed air filter | Remove the air filter and clean it. However, if the filter is damaged, you will need to replace it. |
Needle and needle body not connected properly | The needle and needle body will need to be either repaired or replaced. Often, this causes low power. |
Bad pressing fuel pump | Inspect the fuel pump for any parts that could be damaged. Any damaged parts will need to be replaced. |
Exhaust Producing Black Fumes
Cause | Solution |
Overloading | Lower the load and follow the machine load qualifications. |
Low air pressure or air leak | Inspect the engine for any leaks. If you find a leak, seal it immediately. Also, clean and/or repair the air filter if it’s dirty or worn out. |
Exhaust Producing Blue Fumes
Cause | Solution |
Oil was mixed with the cylinder | Inspect the oil and drain any unnecessary oil from the cylinder. |
Worn out or chipped piston ring between the piston and cylinder | Inspect and replace the piston ring. |
Exhaust Producing White Fumes
Cause | Solution |
Water has been mixed with the diesel fuel | Empty the tank and clean it thoroughly. Once this has been done, you can replace the fuel. |
